who has not ever seen the way home and I can feel the heaviness of the day slip away, see the light on and imagine the smells, the faces, voices .. the warmth of your bed and love to those who wait ...
I wonder if the homeless have never had this feeling, I wonder if I miss it .. who knows' how it feels to not have their own way home ..
began to 'sudden my new job, my first assignment from a social worker in a nighttime emergency reception center for the homeless ..
who are the homeless? Before starting to work .. I tried to imagine their faces, their eyes, their voices and their stories .. all expectations fell, every image I had formed of them is and now I'm gone I know all their names, to know details of their lives, to strive to understand how you can 'get to lose everything .. how do you not have anyone waiting for you ...
every night I look at them, some submerged in disarming dignity 'and serenity' happy to have a place to sleep, I see them cling any object that is delivered, I observe their relationship .. I wonder who I would become a friend if I was there with them .. I wonder with whom I would be supportive and honest as they are in their small groups of friends, inseparable ..
then listen to their stories briefly because the center has just started and we are an emergency logistics and structural and alas the time to devote to them is very little .. I always tell the wives, husbands, children, parents, and I almost wonder that these people belonged to others, I am surprised that they have loved, been loved, they had a family .. and then?
What happens next? As you can 'lose it all? .. Can' happen too us?
us that we all, we live surrounded by so many emotions, we feel that we still resentment or indifference to our brother, our parents .. we who trample our wealth, the wealth of having someone waiting for us, that handles and cares for us ...
us who are so sure you are going on our own, we believe that they have no need of others ..
look at some in their anger, most every night 'strong every night .. less tolerant, ready to take offense, menarsi, stabbed, willing to die as if the death was a turning point, a way out of their way' exit .. I had never happen to have before me a person who asks you to kill him by saying the usual sad, disarming phrase "I have nothing to lose!"
what you say to a person who does not even have a reason which prompts him to have respect for self and others, which leads him to LIVE?!
as is done on a guy more 'little of me that has destroyed everything around him, that every day and only find refuge only in a few too many to drink or some dose of cocaine?
the homeless are single people .. people who have no way home .. people who have no one waiting for them .. they are the first people who had everything and now have nothing .. and makes you want to tighten. . make an effort to snatch a smile and they laugh when you lightens my heart .. you are generous people .. Raffaella is one of them, every night is concerned to get me a bottle of water with ice for me .. and the water is more 'good in the world!
